HP SIM Cannot deploy software and firmware

$

Hello

I try to deploy the support pack 9.10 on a HP DL380e Gen8 server on windows 2008 R2 through HP SIM  7.2.0
So I use the "Deploy / Deploy Drivers... / Install Software and Firmware" menu.
So I choose my "support pack 9.10" and starts execution.
The task runs a while (running status) then goes into failure.

In the logs of the VCA server target, I get this error : "The Version Control Agent POSTed a InstallComplete category event with severity code 0 to URL https://192.168.2.2:280/cpqevent. An unexpected status of 0 was returned."

Thanks for your help

HP SIM 7.2, not getting hardware alerts

$

I need some assistance here and am some what new to HPSIM.  I have 7.2 running SNMP is set up, but I am not getting email alerts for hardware failures.  I have Automatic Event Handling setup for ALL Critical / Major and Minor tasks and the ONLY email alerts I get is when a system is unreachable.

I am banging my head here.  I went down the SNMP path, but since I DO get alerts, that appears to be working.  I've tried several different Automatic Event Handling definitions and just can figure this out.

And I know I have "issue" cause if I look at the summary I can see a slew of "Critical" events for items like "Network Interface lost connectivity, Ethernet team lost redundancy etc.  But am simply not getting email alerts for any event BUT "System is unreachable"...

HELP!!!

Hi,

We are about to retire a server with expired warranty. We are just going to keep it for a couple of weeks to ensure the transition went well. I'm currently getting an alarm from HP SIM every day by e-mail that the "Accelerator Board Battery Failed (3040)". Is it possible to disable this specific alert but still getting noticed if anything else breaks down?

Thanks!

HP Version control manager and version control agent issues connecting

Hello Guys...

we recently rebuilded our HP Insight manager server to 7.30 and then updated to 7.3.1 after that

things seem to be working but we are having issues with  version control manager..

I am trying to use our HP insight manager to  configure ---> Configure or repair agent --> in here I would add my targer which is the server which I want to update with the newest Version control agent.

I get the following error

for some reason every thing used to work before this.. but after my  HP insight manager got hosed and we had to rebuild it.. things are not working right...

anyone know why ?  it seems like  no of my other servers can contact my version control manager.

when trying to do it via the  Version control agent to contact the manager I get the following error.

The specified repository, vm-nyc-msim1.simnet, is invalid or not reachable.

any clue ?

Issues with hp system insight manager communicating with target machines

hi.. I  am experiencing an issue with my hp system insight manager and my target machines, when I try to deploy a agent or firmware via  HP system insight manager.   when I am logged into my HP SIM ,, I goto  DEPLOY --> Deploy Drivers, Firmware, Agents -->  Install firmware and software

I would choose my target machine and the agent of software or firmware I want to deploy .. I would hit ok and another screen would pop up and telling me that the agent has been downloaded and the screen would stay in the  In progress window... for 25mins.. I know it is not working.. so I then log into my target machine and open up Version control agent and I check the logs..   please see below

Severity    Task ID    Date / Time    Message
Error    1470    4/11/2014 3:27:35 PM    An install process for Smart Component cp020718.exe was terminated due to a timeout of 15 minutes.

   1470    4/11/2014 3:11:53 PM    Started installation task from caller 172.50.50.50. [ details ]

as you can see it looks like the process never gets to finish.. it just times out like the HP SIM couldnt send the agent to the machine to download and just times out..

so I went ahead and manually download the agent from the target machine and I was able to install without issues...

anyone have similar issue ? and know a fix for this ?   it looks like.. I can not delopy any agents or software via the HP SIM... what good is this software if I have to manually goto each machine and install it ?

Thanks.

Hi,

We discovered that hpsmh (version 7.2.2-8) is vurnerable for the OpenSSL Heartbleed problem on tcp port 2381, when will HP fix this issue? Is it possible to manual patch the embedded openssl?

DB disk IO problems - deathstar query

Hi Forum,

Why is this query at the top of the leaderboard over most resource consuming tasks in my DB-server?

SELECT trapItems.trap_id, RTRIM(trap_name), enabled_flag, trapItems.sev_vb FROM trapItems,trapItemsEx WHERE trapItems.trap_id = trapItemsEx.trap_id AND trap_generic_id = @P0

It is since this thursday continuously generating 60-80MB/s in disk access, why o why is this happening?

Any ideas of how to kill this deathstar?

Best Regards,
Johannes

Unable to clear IML in SMH if using SSO login from HP-SIM on Linux host

$

Hello all,

if I access the SMH of a SLES11 host using SSO from HP-SIM I'm not able to clear IML entries and send test events too. On both pages, IML and snmp settings, I got no buttons for clearing or sending test traps. Instead, I get the hint:

NOTE: The ability to modify the Integrated Management Log may be disabled because you are not logged in with root privileges.

If I access the SMH using a normal browser login with username/password everything works fine. What I have done so far:

1. Create a root user on my CMS with same credentials as on the Linux host --> same behavior.

2. Add a CMS user to the root group on the Linux host  --> same behavior.

3. Read HP-SIM Technical Reference Guide --> found no how-to for that question.

4. Ask google --> nothing

Now you can say "log in by using the cerdentials", but that is very uncomfortable. If I'm logged into HP-SIM and access the SMH using the hyperling on hosts homepage in HP-SIM, then a SSO is used and I'm not able to clear the IML. For that to do, I must open a second browser window an have manually login into the host.

What I have to do, to get this running?

Best reagrds,

Bernd

OneView replacing SIM?

Heard through the grapevine today that HP is going to be replacing SIM with a product called OneView. This may be the reason why they stopped development on the new version of SIM that was supposed to be released mid March. Can anyone confirm this info? Thanks!

System Managment Homepage 7.3 and Windows Server 2003

Has anyone else noticed that the last version of the System Management Homepage to work on Windows Server 2003 operating systems is 7.2.2.9?  The 7.3 releases say they apply to Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 x64 and the install completes sucessfully but the page does not load (Tested version 7.3.0.9, 7.3.1.4 and 7.3.2.1).  Not a big deal since we only have a few Windows 2003 servers left but I can't add the new versions to our Version Control Repository since the latest version does not work across the board.  Just trying to find out if HP actually tests these before releasing.

I am trying to install the SIM agent on a SUSE 11 SP2 box and having some problems rounding up all of the required packages.  So far I have installed the RPM listed below and everythig is going great, however I cannot find any of the other dependancy packages on the site.  Can someone please point me in the right direction.

I am running "rpm -ivh hp-snmp-agents-9.25-2384.9.sles11.x86_64.rpm " and getting the following error:

How to disable an FC HBA alert on ProLiant DL380 G7

$

I Have HP Systems Insight Manager 7.1 Update 1 installed on a Windows 7 x64 system. I have discovered several VMWare ESXi 5.5 hosts running on HP ProLiant DL380 G7 servers. All of these servers were installed using the HP custom .ISO for VMWare ESXi 5.5, so they are running the HP agents.

I have WBEM credentials configured and it is correctly reading the hardware with the exception that it is throwing the following warning/error on all systems under the Health Status --> WBEM header on teh System Status page:

! FC HBA

If I click on the FC HBA link it generates the following detailed information:

FC HBA Ports
Port Status Port Name Controller ID Port Type Port Type Description Current State
Stopped Fibre Channel Port 1 QLogic QLE8152 Other Fabric There is a minor problem that is causing limited interference.
Stopped Fibre Channel Port 2 QLogic QLE8152 Other Fabric There is a minor problem that is causing limited interference.

FC Port Statistics
Controller ID Bytes Transmitted Bytes Received Pkts Transmitted Pkts Received CRC Errors Link Failures
QLogic QLE8152 0 Bytes 0 Bytes 35741347 24021341 1 0
QLogic QLE8152 0 Bytes 0 Bytes 35741562 24021616 1 0

I can see entries for the following under Storage Adapters in vSphere:

ISP81xx-based 10 GbE FCoE to PCI Express CNA
vmhba1
vmhba2

I assume this is the hardware causing the FC HBA events in HP SIM. I am looking for a way to stop getting these events or ignore them.

Possible solutions:
1. Filter/ignore the FC HBA within HP SIM (it is not an option under "WBEM Health Inclusion Status"
2. Disable the hardware on the VMWare ESXi 5.5 server so that it no longer registers with VMWare or responds to HP SIM WBEM query.

Anyone have steps to accomplish either of these or an alternate solution to accomplish stopping the FC HBA events?

Don't update firmware on Proliant server with HP SIM

$

Good morning ,

I installed on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 on HP Systems Insight Manager product machine. On this same machine I have configured the repository where I stored the corresponding SPP for updates both hardware and software of my Proliant machines . On the machines that I monitor are properly installed and configured version control agent pointing this machine where the repository and have assigned the corresponding SPP . Currently , I have to do both firmware updates and software on machines Proliant G7 that I have managed . I have done some upgrade RPM corresponding to HP software and updated packages trouble me .

Now when I try to do the upgrade , for example, Firmware CD Supplemental Update / Online ROM Flash Component for Linux - HP Integrated Lights -Out 3, the installation process log shows me that this has not been possible upgrade , as can be see on the picture I attached . Am I missing something to configure so that I can update hardware level ! ?

Thank you so much!!!

SNMP outbound broken after 7.2 upgrade

I finally upgraded to SIM 7.2.2 (latest version I can run due to IRSA) and shortly after, I noticed that discoveries and identify tasks fail with systems running SNMP.  I also tried using the sytem types tool to pull OIDs from systems and it fails as well.

I stumbled across a blog where someone found that a new parameter existed in the globalsettings file - "JavaSnmpStack", and setting it to 'false' fixed the issue for me - for about 15 minutes!  Without doing anything else, the same issue came back.

It's very strange.. yes the clients have valid SNMP community names and yes the SIM credentials are correct - i have thousands of devices so they all could not be wrong.

Thanks

How to refresh SW Baseline list in HP SIM

Hi everyone,

is there any task you can execute, which updates the current list of SW Baselines of the Version Control Repository Manager?

I've created some new baselines in the VCRM and tried following steps:

 - identify system (Target: VCRM Server)

 - SW & HW Status Polling (Target: VCRM Server)

 - Data collection Task with "overwrite" option (Target: VCRM Server)

None of these tasks refreshed the list of SW baselines, even I can see them already when logging in directly to the VCRM website on the hosting server...

Thanks and regards,

Ville

Newbie : HP Systems Mangement Homepage SSL Heartbleed bug; Cert regeneration

$
0
0

Hello All,

I am new to managing a Windows Server environment which is a mix of Windows Server 2003/2008  (32/64 bit) versions.

Recently, several hundred servers had been detected with the Heartbleed bug on port 2381 which I beleive is related to SMH. The SMH version was 7.2.2 which HP recommeds to upgrade to 7.2.3.

Because of the priority, I quickly upgraded these to 7.2.3 by installing the suggested .exe on HP site :

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c04251388-1%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.tpst=ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01&ac.admitted=1399017795638.876444892.199480143

The above fixed the vulnerability and produced clean scans.

I now wish to regenerate the certificates and am completely lost on how I should do that. As per the doc above,

"If it is suspected that a datacenter has been compromised by this security vulnerability, delete the SMH certificate or back it up by moving it to a private folder. The SMH certificate is located on each node of the datacenter, with the filenames cert.pem and file.pem, in folder C:\hp\sslshare. A new certificate will be created when the SMH service starts (at the end of the upgrade or new installation)."

Does the above mean that if simply delete cert.pem and file.pem and restart the SMH service, the certificates will be re-genreated and the issue is solved?

Or When it says  "(at the end of the upgrade or new installation)", does it mean that I have to reinstall 7.2.3?

(FYI, PKI is *not* being used in our environment.)

Please advise. Thanks.
