SMH silent install problem

I've run into a problem when trying to install SMH via the "silent install" option on Windows 2008 servers.

 

I've already created the answer file (setup.iss) and execute from a command prompt (lauched as administrator):

 

setup.exe /s /f1setup.iss   (where setup.iss is located in the same directory as the setup file).

 

Nothing happens.   An hour glass flashes briefly, then . . . nothing.  No install, and more importantly, nothing's logging anywhere that indicates what's going on.   The same problem occurs if I include full paths in the above install line.

 

The smh_installer log that generates on the root of the system drive has NOTHING in it for today's date (it was already present from a previous install a couple of months ago).  The Windows application and system log have nothing for the time stamps when the install was initiated.

 

If I simply initiate the installer from outside of the command line and install the via the GUI, it works fine.  It's not a downgrade or same version install, as I'm going from 7.3.1.4 to 7.3.2.1

 

I haven't been able to track down any information about SMH's setup.exe command line parameters on the web. 

 

Any ideas?

SIM 7.3 Connection with oracle db issues

Hi ,

 

I'm having an issue with SIM connecting it to the Oracle db, i've installed oracle jdbc drivers without issues and also performed mxoracleconfig without issues. The stange issue that im having is that when i do mxgetdbinfo i'm having the following errors : 

 

[root@HP-SIM logs]# mxgetdbinfo

Database Connection failed - Check whether Database server is Up and Running.

03 May 2014 22:51:52,951 INFO  [HPSIM_DEBUG] Exception caught while trying for connection with oracle database[Ljava.lang.StackTraceElement;@1aaa977

03 May 2014 22:51:53,120 INFO  [HPSIM_DEBUG] Did Not free your database connection properly, use releaseConnection()

 

Connection to db seems to be fine as i've continue the config using mxinitconfig -a and the schema now has been populated with tables . However the process fails with the following shown in initlogs :

Desta / WEBES cipher suite config

I have been looking into changing the cipher suites used for the ssl page of Desta/WEBWES, I have dug through all the config files I could find in /program files/HP/svctools and dug through all the config pages on https://localhost:7906

I need to disable weak ciphers. Does anyone have any ideas?

SIM 7.3 on Server 2012 R2

Hi All,

I can see that Server 2012 R2 should be a supported operating system, however when trying to install 7.3 on Server 2012 R2 Standard, i get a prompt that the operating system is not supported.

 

I can run this in compatability mode back to Windows 7 which gets me past that error then i run into a diffferent issue with SQL.

Is anyone else expiriencing problems with Server 2012 R2. I cant believe that its unsupported?

HP SIM + SMH + VM

Hi.

 

Just wondering if it is possible to install HP SIM without SMH. We are currently running SIM version 6 without SMH but did not remeber how we achived this and if this is working with version 7 also.

 

As we want to install SIM into a virtual machine IMHO it does not make sense to have SMH installed on that system.

HP SIM / IC 7.3 WBEM events not receive

With HP SIM /Insight Control 7.1 and 7.2 I get without problems WBEM events (test events or real events) from Windows 2008 R2/ESX 5.x

 

With HP SIM / IC 7.3 and the same Server(W2008 R2 / ESX 5.x)  I get no WBEM events in HPSIM 7.3  (test or real events)

 

Is this a configuration change in HP SIM 7.3 or is this a problem?

HP SIM 7.1 Firmware Report

Hi,

 

I am new to this forum and i like to say hello to everyone!

 

I hope im asking this question in the right forum, can someone please tell me how i can run a report on firmware.

 

we have over 200 servers, and my manager likes to know which servers are up to date with firmware and which aren't.

 

Please note im new to HP SIM so some step by step instructions will be a great starter. I need a simple report which i can extract to a excel sheet to say this server has the latest firmware version and the other has bla bla.. etc

HP Version Control Agent firmware installation issues.

Hi. I am having issues with HP version control Agent firmware installation issues.

 

When I login to my  "servername:2381"  and then I click on  Version Control Agent

it would open up a page list all my hardware and software with current firmware and if new version available

on field is support pack and other is  Latest version.

 

When I click on   HP Insight Management WBEM Providers for Windows Server x64 Editions 9.2.5.0   9.5.0.0 

 

check support pack  9.5.0.0 and click Install.

 

it goes thru everything but fails

HP SIM changes Windows dynamic port range to 51500 - 65536

After reading this document (pg 28), I thought I understood that HP SIM set aside 51500-65536 for HP SIM services.  During a review of ports and services, for compliance, I discovered that it actually changed the Windows starting dynamic port from 49152 to 51500.  This caused Windows services which normally grab ports starting at 49152 to grab 51500 instead.  Is this the intended result and I'm just interpreting the documentation incorrectly?

 

Is HP SIM using dynamic ports 49152- 51500 or can I safely set the dynamic range back to starting at 49152?

HP SIM Discovery: Host and iLO stuck together

Good day.

 

I have strange proble while discovering host and its iLO.

If i discover only server thats ok. I reicieve good server page in HP SIM with Server Name, ip , link for its SMH (host.png)

 

Then if i discover server's ilo i recieve stucked together host and ilo (host_ilo.png)

For example:

Product ModelIntegrated Lights-Out (iLO)

Hardware DescriptionHardware: AMD64 Family 15 Model 33 Stepping 2 AT/AT COMPATIBLE - Software: Windows Version 5.2 (Build 3790 Multiprocessor Free)

Wtf? Windows on iLO?

 

Server model: HP DL585 G1

The istalled HP PSP is 8.70 (latest)

The istalled iLO firmware is 1.96 (latest for ilo 1)

How to setup weekly Health Status Reports?

Hello.

 

I am looking for a solution to setup a weekly report of all major, warning, minor health status of my devices.

I have tried this using the report function or setting up an automatic email task.

But non of those options gave me a good result.

 

The Problem is, when the HP SIM reported a failure disk, it does this once, but not twice.

If the HP Management Agents hang there wont be any report to the HP SIM until reboot of the server or restart of the agents.

 

Is there any working solution to check if the agents are responding to the hp sim server?

VCRM Catalog not showing HP ProLiant Support Pack

Have a question about the VCRM catalog. I uploaded a Proliant Support pack (9.10) to our SIM Server's Version control respository - but it's not showing as a 'Support Pack' - this is a problem as I cannot assign a reference support pack to any of the machines. It shows a ton of 'components' - but no actual support pack.

I created a 'Test Baseline' to see if anything would show other than components, and it does. But since I used the 'upload support pack' link - it found the support pack fine and did the upload - shouldn't it show up now?

 

I had to get it all updated in order to get it working - well, actually - once I signed in with credentials it started working, as it just refused to find the Version Control Repository by certificate; but username/password will work also. So I'm 100% sure it's updated. 

 

VCRM is version 7.3.2.0

The VCA on the server i'm using for testing is version 7.3.2.0 (64bit)

Sign-in Failure at first time login to HP SIM 7.3 on Linux

Can someone let me know what is the first time password to logon HP SIM ?
After I deployed, I cannot logon using any 'root' or my created 'hpsim' account, or any local users.

Monitoring CISCO UCS C210 M2

Hi All,

 

I am trying to set up hardware monitoring for CISCO UCS C210 M2 using HP SIM, all require MIBs registered, however when i sent the test trap it is received in HP SIM as "A genericUnregistered trap signifies that a system has sent a trap to the management server for a MIB that has not yet been compiled. Try compiling any MIBs from the vendor for this system to obtain additional information. See Details for more information"

 

can anyone help me with this error message, also i am looking for any technical support available for HP SIM?

System disappearing (but not realy) and after rediscovery it has many old 'Deleted System' events.

Hello,

When i searched for a node - iLO in this case - it was not in HP SIM (7.2.0).

Searching on it's IP address gave an empty list too.
The ip, fqdn and shortname are in a hosts file which is run via a schedule.
If i run this the node appears again and still has it's events.

Many off those events are 'Deleted System'.

According to the text it may have something to do with duplicate UUID's.
Searching for the UUID did not give the (any) node back.
Deleted the node, rediscover, and all starts again.
How should i start trouble shooting this.

HPSBMU02947 - Vulnerabilities fixed in SMH 7.2.3?

Hello all,

 

Were the vulnerabilites ( CVE-2013-4846 and CVE-2013-6188 ) discussed in HPSBMU02947 fixed in SMH 7.2.3?

 

I assume that they are because it is a later release and the components most likely affected were updated in the 7.2.3 release.

 

Also, SMH 7.2.3 appears to be recommended that it be installed on Windows 2003.  Is this just a recommendation or can 7.2.3 only be installed on Windows 2003?  I did successfully install 7.2.3 on Windows 7.

Adding ML570 G3 to HP SIM

Afternoon all,

 

I'm trying to add an ML 570 G3 to HP SIM control Center and I'm having a number of issues getting it to register events, I've used both SIM and the iLO to configure it to send but neither of these are working.

 

It finds the server, it finds the hostname but if I try to send a test alert it never comes through, any ideas how to fix this or what information do I need to give you in order to help me?

Windows Server WBEM monitoring

Hello! I'm going to monitor an hp proliant with wbem protocol by Systems Insight Manager. Is it necessary to install Insight Management Agents for Windows Server on the monitored server or it will be enough to install wbem providers? I know about wmi mapper between cms and managed system.
