HP Blade ILO4 using only SNMP V3, Traps not received in HP SIM

Hi,

 

We have a requirement to use only snmpv3 (for security reasons) to monitor HP blade center C7000 Chassis. I have all the blades with ILO4 which supports snmpv3 and installed SIM 7.2 with latest hotfix. I have configured all the blades to use snmpv3 and it works fine when discovering the blades, log shows snmpv3 was found and successfully authenticated.

However issue here is no traps are received if I disable snmpv1 on the iLO. if I enabel snmpv1 on iLO traps/events are getting generated and displayed properly but not when snmpv1 is disabled. I also did wireshark and alerts sent from iLO however HP SIM does not display the events. Also enabled snmp authentication failure MIB to show failure events in SIM, but there are no failure events. I m confused here.. The requirement is to use only snmpv3 for this environment.

 

Any suggessions will be appreciated.

Insight and Dell system management .. how far

Hi

 

In my IT infrastructure i have half HP and dell systems

 

I know that it's possible to mamagne Dell servers in HP Insight through SNMP+MIB but i just want to have feedback, how far can it be mamanaged : if it's works well, alerts are pull up, acces to Dell Server Adminsitrator agent,  Equallogic  supervison ... ? 


Just to know if i can only setup Insight (that i know from a previous job) or do i have to setup both Console ....

HP Smart Update Manager: No install was run, due to failed dependencies

We tried to use SIM's Update to Baseline wizard to update to a server to SPP 2013.09.0B. As seen in the log below, it failed due to dependencies. This is a DL380 G7 server, so we don't know why it thinks the DL980 System Providers is a dependency.

HPVA - Overall software status error.

Hi


I see that HP VCA displays over all software status - "Unable to collect Installed software, SNMP agents not running"

 

on all machines, but only on one machine I can see the installed software.

 

 

The CMS server is Windows 2008 R2. with MS SQL express edition.

I am  running HP SIM 7.2.1 on windows

The clinets are mixed versions of RHEL 4,5 and 6.

 

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

 

 

I tried to restart the service hp-snmpd-agents, snmpd, hpsmhd, hpvca,

 

clicked change settings and reconnected to the vcrm

 

still the same.

HP System Management Homepage and SSL Server Allows Anonymous Authentication Vulnerability issue

Hi all,

we have had a security test passed against our servers and got back result on some HP DL380 servers that they have the SSL Server Allows Anonymous Authentication Vulnerability issue on port 2381. We have found the only SSL capable application on port 2381 is the HP System Management Homepage. Does anyone of you have any idea how to fix this issue and what is the root cause? The version of HP System Management Homepage is 7.2.0.14 and there is an update to version 7.2.1.13. I want to  ask before I proceed with the update to get know if the update fix this or it is just configuration issue. Thanks for any reply.

VCRM and SIM integration - VCRM broken

I setup a 7.1 server maybe a year ago and got the software notifications more or less working.  after i had some issues I encded up blowing out my SIM install and reinstalling all the components.  Several months ago I updated it to 7.2.  About 2 weeks ago I updated it to 7.22.

 

I had been having issues with VCRM working, but had given up on it.  I know that some servers were reporting their software version info back in the original 7.1 install.

 

Anyway, I have all the latestest versions for SMH, VCRM, VCA, and SIM (7.2.2).  I'm running SIM and VCRM on same server, it's a VM on ESX 4.1.

 

I saw this post which talked about there being time out issues.  This sounded like a likely culprit, but the fix dind't work for me.  I tried several timout values.

My database for VCRM is almost 27 gigs.  My processors were pegged much of the time and I added a couple processors for a total of 4.  This helped the utilization, but VCRM still doesn't work in SIM.

 

To be clear, on individual machines I can configure the VCA to talk to the VCRM and they work just fine.  I can see what versions are available, and I cn update software on local machines via the VCA.

 

I've tried changing the trust on the SMH on the SIM server to 'trust all', but that doesn't help.  The error I always get when I go to options- > software/firmware -> version control repository is:

"Error retrieving repository. Ensure the Version Control Repository Manager (VCRM) is installed and running. Be sure a trust relationship is established with the repository device. Finally, the VCRM may not respond if it is in the process of updating its catalog. In this case simply try again later."

 

It may or may not be worth noting that I originally setup the VCRM to get updates for windows 7 on accident.  When I go into the VCRM via SHM and try to delete them the VCRM times out trying to get rid of them and I can't delete them.

 

How can I get SIM to use the VCRM?  It sees the VCRM, but it can't access it.

Sim updated to 7.2 does not show array controller in array controller report

Hello people,

 

Just to let you know, i've had some problems with the buildin reports in Sim for array controllers.

We first saw this when we ran the array controller report and saw that we only saw our linux and ESX servers in the report.

 

When you have the same issue, the only solution seems a fresh install of the 7.2 sim software.

We even tried to run the 7.2.2 update but that did not work.

VCA causes VCRM to crash.

Greetings,

 

I have a VCRM server configured with:

VCRM 7.2.2.0

VCA 7.2.2.0

SMH 7.2.2

 

And server1 configured with:

VCA 7.2.0.0

SMH 7.2.2

WBEM 9.4.0.0

 

I have other servers in my environment that can succussfully connect to the VCRM server.

I have reinstalled the agents on server1 to no avail.

 

If I load the VCA home page in SMH on server1 then the VCRM service will crash consistently and repeadedly every time: with:

Unable to open SIM

I'm experiencing an issue where the SIM is not starting, it comes up with an error saying that I should check if the database service is running.

 

I had this issue in the past after I changed the password for the hpsim account. But I managed to correct that issue without long delay.

 

This current issue started two weeks ago and for the life of me, I can't seem to get it to work.

 

I can connect to the database using the management studio from another sql server, browse the database without getting an access denied.

 

The event log contains multiple error entries as indicated below:


com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Problem initializing the database.
com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Cannot start SIM: Authentication type should be host or dbms, check database.props

 

I'm now even thinking about reinstalling SIM but I'm afraid it might not resolve my issue.

HP SIM doesn't show Uncorrectable Memory Error

Hello,

 

today I recognized a flashing light at one of our HP servers in our datacenter that is also integrated in HP SIM. HP SIM doesn't show any errors for that server but when I log in to the System Management Homepage I can see an error showing "Uncorrectable Memory Error".

 

In my opinion HP SIM should also be able to show this error and send me an email. All agents should be installed and SNMP is fine.

 

Do you have any suggestions why HP SIM isn't able to show this error?

HP SIM Disk array problem while creating Storage pools

I am in process of creating storage pools in SIM (Infrstructure Orchestration). I created 3PAR Hosts with logical volumes and while adding storage pools in SIM , I used the 3PAR Host's WWN. But error shows as 'No suitable disk array found for verification'. 

 

Is this process correct or should I follow a different approach to add Storage pools and disk array to SIM ?

Database User- Rights

Hello.

 

We got the problem, that the database user (domain user with admin rights on the db) launched a database shrink, which had caused a lock of the complete database. (which is shared with different sources / applications)

 

Which user rights  are necessary for the HP SIM database to work properly?

SIM Server Move and Upgrade

We are going to a virtual server for SIMS.  We tried to do a P to V but it failed miserably.

I am currently running version 7.0 on Server 2008R2.  After the move, I will be upgrading to 7.2.  How do I move the database and the certificate so I can keep all of the information?

 

Would it be better just to do a fresh install on the virtual of 7.2, then move the database and the certificate?

System Management Homepage fails for logins

This is on redhat linux, if I set the hpsmh to allow local anaonymous you can get in, but If you choose login or set system to use logins the system locks up and fails. We had some system harding scripts run that limits access to various files. Any idea what rights the authentication modules associated with hpsmh needs in order to proces logins?

Server Discovery/Identification Error

Hello, 

 

I have this problem that when I try to discover /Identify  any server in my environment  it fails and it gives me that the system identification couldn't complete properly on the target servers and right before this message it take a lot of time for "Checking for WBEM Support on System" 

 

any ideas ? 

 

 

Also please note that I tried to run a discovery before (1 Month ago) and it worked fine

Update client servers to new SIM server

Hi,

 

I am looking to migrate my servers to a new instance of HP SIM on a new server.

 

I am currently running Systems Insight Manager 6.3, but would like to install the latest version (7?) on a new server, and update the agents on my HP servers to point to the new SIM server.

 

Are there any methods of migrating servers to a new SIM server?

i've different HP Procurve switch i want to add in HPSIM

 

i've configured SNMP (authentification and authorization) on each switch, they are well recognize in console

Now, I need to import and compile MIB to not receive Generic Unregistered event so i've download the pack

Simply Drivers installation VCRM

Hi

 

All of my windows server have VCA install land assigned to HP Porliant Support Pack 2013.09 (Use certificate to authenticate VCA to access VCRM)

 

I just want to update BIOS (just this item is critical on many servers ) so i my mind, i just had to click to View System Software or "update to baseline", select Online ROM Flash Component for Windows x64 -then update but i cant' select a single item .. !!??

 

If i need to create a specific baseline for it, it colmplicate a lot the process ...

HP SIM 5.3 trap issue

I have HP SIM 5.3 SP1 installed. Using Network Monitor I can confirm that SNMP traps are being sent from the monitored system, to UDP 162, using SNMP v1. I've confirmed the only service listening on UDP 162 is snmp.exe process. Community strings are correct and I've confirmed event filter settings allow to receive from * and all boxes on that page are checked.

 

I can't seem to get HP SIM to show anything except local machine authentication traps and PING polling status. When I view all events no SNMP trap events show up. Obviously I need to know when hardware failures send the traps.

 

I've confirmed the Dell MIBs I need to use are compiled and recognized.

 

How can I determine why the traps are not showing up in HP SIM?

HP SIM is not generating reports

hello,

 

I'm trying to generate a report that will show all my servers, and their Array configurations of the local disks. The SMH, will show what RAID type a Logical Drive is, and what disks are in that array, but the storage reports show "No Data Available" for EVERYTHING.  

I am using HP SIM 7.2 . I have see one thread and according to it - array configuration information is not possible to view but it was old HP SIM.
